Was it really six months ago to
My target was to become one of the just-one-per-cent of authors that sells more than 1,000 copies in their book’s lifetime. I exceeded that in one month.
Sales are now up past 3,300. Just over one-quarter paperback, the rest Kindle.
There are 90 reviews on Amazon UK, with a 4.7-star average rating.
I get two messages daily from people saying how the book’s affected them, and what they’ve done after reading it.
Before late August 2018 I knew no-one in the publishing industry. I now know two, and, apparently, 3,300 sales in six months is “phenomenal”, especially as I’ve self-published.
The book’s been a bestseller in the UK and US in categories ranging from personal finance through public relations to portfolio management.
RESET has been featured on more than 40 blogs, including Monevator and The Escape Artist. Traditional media coverage includes Business Insider, The Herald, Master Investor and the Northwich Guardian.
I’ve even had some pick-up in the US this month when Leif at Physician on FIRE (big US Financial Independence Retire Early [FIRE] blogger) took a shine to it.
I’ve appeared on a couple of podcasts with more planned. Talks are in the offing, too.
I’ve met hundreds of folk, particularly in the UK financial independence community. Some have placed bulk orders (20-plus) to give away to friends/family/clients.
Scores of people have sent me “RESET on tour” pics.
Five hundred new people have subscribed to my email list.
I’ve launched a 1-2-1 RESET Coaching service. My first customer said: “My 1-2-1 RESET Coaching helped me to focus on my core goals and ‘stress test’ many of the thoughts that had been circulating in my head but not crystallised.
“Dave was able to cover many of his book’s core concepts and how they applied to my set of circumstances. He was able to identify areas of improvement in my thinking and practical solutions.
“I left the meeting with lots of additional reading to take my learning forward and a warm feeling that it was money and time well spent.”
I’ve managed to segue back to the day job (I run my own PR consultancy) since December, picking up a few contracts – beating off stiff competition:O) – from interesting clients.
I didn’t set out to write the first book to translate the millions-strong US FIRE community to a UK context, but I have.
The challenge is breaking out of the FI/personal finance sphere to reach the millions of normal midlifers (from whom I receive the majority of those daily messages).
I’ve had a number of interesting calls/meetings over the past few weeks, which I’m confident will keep the momentum going and see more and more people discover the transformational change programme outlined in RESET. Watch this space.
In the meantime, thanks to everyone who’s supported me/bought a copy/left a review (apart from that bloke who gave it one star and said he was going to “drop it off at the nearest charity shop at the earliest opportunity”).
RESET: How to Restart Your Life and Get F.U. Money (The Unconventional Early Retirement Plan for Midlife Careerists Who Want to Be Happy) is priced £2.95 for the Kindle version.
The paperback’s list price is £9.99, but Amazon periodically discounts that so watch out for a bargain.
Go buy a copy, put your feet up, and enjoy a decent read. Or if you’re undecided, sign up to my email list and get the first 8,000 words for free. If you don’t like it, you can always unsubscribe.
